Advertisers pull ads with Cha Eun-woo after Kim Soo-hyun switch

Korea’s advertising industry is moving quickly to distance itself from singer and actor Cha Eun-woo after he became embroiled in a massive tax evasion controversy — an ironic turn given that he was recently brought in to replace another scandal-hit star. On Jan. 23, promotional videos and image posts featuring Cha were switched to private across Shinhan Bank’s YouTube and other social media accounts. Cha had been serving as the bank’s advertising model. The move came after reports surfaced that Cha is under investigation for alleged tax evasion totaling around 20 billion won ($15 million), prompting fallout across the advertising sector. The situation has drawn particular attention because Shinhan Bank had previously dropped the actor Kim Soo-hyun as its model following a personal controversy, only to appoint Cha as his replacement. With both figures now linked to separate scandals, the bank has found itself caught in consecutive celebrity crises. A day earlier, on Jan. 22, skincare brand Abib, for which Cha serves as an ambassador, also set his promotional video on its official

The British Phonographic Industry announced the nominees Thursday, with winners to be revealed on Feb. 28. Established in 1977, the Brit Awards are regarded as the UK's most prestigious music ho

Rose, 'KPop Demon Hunters' soundtrack nominated for BRIT Awards

K-pop girl group BLACKPINK's Rose and a song from the soundtrack of Netflix's animated sensation "KPop Demon Hunters" have been nominated for Britain's top music honors, the BRIT Awards, organizers have announced. Rose's solo track "APT." and "Golden" from the "KPop Demon Hunters" soundtrack both got nods in the International Song of the Year category at the 46th annual ceremony. The trio that performed "Golden" for the in-film girl group Huntr/x -- Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami -- also received a nomination for International Group of the Year. South Korean acts have steadily gained recognition at the BRITs in recent years. BTS earned nominations for International Group of the Year in 2021 and 2022, and BLACKPINK was nominated in 2023, but neither act took home a trophy. Last year, South Korean DJ Peggy Gou was nominated for International Song of the Year but did not win. The 2026 awards ceremony is set for Feb. 28.
