P1Harmony's rise in London signals K-pop's growing footing in Europe

LONDON — As K-pop’s growth slows in Korea, the genre is finding new momentum across Europe, with the United Kingdom emerging as a rising hub of fan activity and live performance. K-pop boy band P1Harmony performed to over 8,000 people in London’s OVO Arena Wembley on Jan. 30, the closing night of the European leg of its “P1ustage H: Most Wanted” tour. “We have some history with this venue, actually,” Korean Canadian leader Keeho said from the Wembley stage, referring to the group’s 2022 participation in HallyuPopFest. “When we first came here for our festival appearance, there was not even a slight thought in our mind that we would be able to come back here to be able to headline our own show.” The OVO Arena Wembley represents a big step up for the FNC Entertainment sextet — Keeho, Theo, Jiung, Intak, Soul and Jongseob — in Europe and Britain. Their London shows have evolved from 3,000-person gigs at the Troxy as part of the “P1ustage H: P1oneer” tour in January 2024 and “P1ustage H: Utop1a” in January 2025, making the Wembley arena show more than a doubl

Rosé, Bruno Mars open Grammys with hit single 'APT.'

BLACKPINK's Rosé has opened the 68th Grammy Awards with a high-energy performance of her global hit "APT.," joined on stage by U.S. pop star Bruno Mars. Performing at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday night (U.S. time), the K-pop singer appeared in a white sleeveless top and tie, starting the lively set by planting a playful kiss on Mars' cheek as he played the guitar beside her. She then swayed to the rhythm before kneeling in front of him during the song's climactic bridge. The pair shared a single microphone for the rousing refrain before ending the number with a smiling embrace. Global pop stars in the audience, including Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus and Bad Bunny, were seen singing along or clapping to the beat. Rose is nominated for two of the six General Field categories this year: Song of the Year and Record of the Year. She also contended for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance but did not win the award. Elsewhere in the ceremony, Hybe's U.S.-based girl group Katseye joined the Best New Artist nominees for a joint performance. Broadway stars Darren Criss and Helen J. Shen pe

MONSTA X's I.M shaves head on stage in tearful farewell before enlistment

I.M, a member of the K-pop boy band MONSTA X, stunned fans by shaving his head live on stage during his final concert before mandatory military service. MONSTA X performed the third and final night of the Seoul leg of their 2026 world tour, “The X: Nexus,” at KSPO Dome in Songpa District, southern Seoul, on Sunday. This marks the group’s first standalone world tour in four years, following their “No Limit” tour in 2022. The concert featured tracks from their latest mini-album “The X” and a setlist chronicling the group’s decade-long history. The night held special significance as the final performance for I.M before he begins his military service on Feb. 8. The atmosphere turned emotional during the encore. After performing “Oh My” and “Rodeo,” I.M addressed the crowd, revealing he had performed despite a back injury. “To be honest, my back isn’t in great condition. I was told I could sit out the performance, but this is my last show before the army. I couldn’t bring myself to skip it,” he said. “After the first night, I worried whether I could finish, b

"Golden" won the Best Song Written for Visual Media award at the premiere ceremony of the 68th Grammy Awards held Sunday (local time) at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. It marked the first time K-pop producers or songwriters have taken home the honor. "You've written a new chapter in K-pop history. I extend my warmest congratulations on the meaningful achievement on the world's most prestigious stage that every musician dreams of," Lee said in a post on social platform X. Lee also applauded BLACKPINK's Rose and Jeung Yoon-chae of girl group KATSEYE, noting that their Grammy nominations demonstrated their global competitiveness, though they did not win. Lee praised the producers and staff who worked behind the scenes, calling them "a source of pride for Korea," and vowed to "steadfastly support our artists so they can showcase their talents on an even broade

K-pop earns 1st Grammy award, yet major category win remains elusive

Despite missing out on the four major General Field prizes, this year’s 68th Grammy Awards marked a watershed moment for K-pop, as the genre celebrated its first-ever Grammy win. “Golden,” the breakout track from Netflix’s hit animated film “KPop Demon Hunters,” won Best Song Written for Visual Media at the Grammys’ Premiere Ceremony, held just hours before the official event at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Sunday (local time). The award, presented to songwriters for music created for visual media, went to EJAE, Teddy Park, 24 and IDO, making them the first K-pop figures to receive a Grammy. Among the ceremony’s top categories, “Golden” and “APT.,” a collaboration between BLACKPINK’s Rosé and U.S. pop star Bruno Mars, were nominated for Song of the Year, with “APT.” also receiving a Record of the Year nod, but neither secured a General Field win. Song of the Year went to Billie Eilish for “Wildflower,” recognizing the songwriting team behind the track, while Record of the Year was awarded to Kendrick Lamar and SZA for “Luther.” Album of the Yea

K-pop idols star in ‘The Mission: K’ musical about early missionaries in Korea

Stories of foreign Christian missionaries who spread the word of God and laid the foundations of education and medicine on the Korean Peninsula in the late 19th and early 20th centuries are often told in books, museum exhibitions and documentaries. “The Mission:K,” a musical that premiered Friday at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul, marked a lively addition to these storytelling methods. The production featured four male K-pop idols portraying four historical figures. MJ from ASTRO played Horace N. Allen (1858-1932) of the United States, who established the first Western medical clinic in the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910). Jaeyoon from SF9 took on the role of Horace G. Underwood (1859-1916), an American missionary known for founding the Joseon Christian College, which later became Yonsei University. Kim Dong-jun from ZE:A portrayed Canadian doctor Oliver R. Avison (1860-1956), who led quarantine efforts during the outbreak of cholera and is credited with opening Severance Hospital and Severance Medical College. Ricky from Teen Top played Louis H.
