Comebacks flood April in packed K-pop calendar

The K-pop industry is moving at full speed in the first half of 2026, with little room to slow down. February was anchored by the 2026 Winter Olympics and high-profile activities from BLACKPINK, one of the genre’s most dominant names. In March, BTS followed, reclaiming the spotlight with its fifth full-length album and a landmark concert at Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul. The calendar only gets tighter from here. June will be packed with Korea’s nationwide local elections and the FIFA World Cup in North America. With global attention already divided across major events, April has emerged as the industry’s last open runway, with idol groups and soloists stacking their releases into a single, high-stakes window. One of the most anticipated returns is that of five-member boy group TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT), who is set to drop its eighth mini album, “7TH YEAR: A Moment of Stillness in the Thorns,” on April 13. The project marks the group’s first release following contract renewals with BigHit Music and signals a turning point as they move into what is being framed as their

BTS releases remix album featuring individual versions of 'Swim'

K-pop supergroup BTS on Friday released an album featuring remix versions of "Swim," the lead track of its new album "Arirang." The nine-track album, titled "Keep Swimming," includes the original and instrumental versions of "Swim," as well as seven remixes reflecting each member's musical taste, BigHit Music, the group's agency, said in a release. Leader RM reimagined the song in a chill hip-hop style, while Jin delivered a high-energy alternative rock version. Suga explored melodic techno with layered club sounds, and J-Hope infused the track with Afrobeats rhythms. Jimin's interpretation takes a smooth slow-jam R&B approach, V opts for an electronic remix, and Jungkook offers a warm acoustic lo-fi rendition built around gentle guitar textures and soft vocals. A Netflix documentary film titled "BTS: The Return," which traces the band's production process for the new release, is also set to premiere at 4 p.m. on Friday.

K-pop megastars BTS' latest album, "Arirang," sold about 4.17 million copies in its first week, data from music sales tracker Hanteo Chart showed Friday. Released last Friday, the album broke the group's own record for first-week sales, exceeding its previous mark of 3.37 million copies set by "Map of the Soul: 7" in 2020. In the K-pop industry, first-week sales are considered an important measure of an artist's popularity and fandom size. "Arirang" sold 1 million copies within about 10 minutes of its release and 3.98 million on the first day alone, the highest first-day sales of any album released in 2026, according to the group's agency BigHit Music. On Apple Music, "Arirang" has topped album charts in 115 countries and regions around the world. The album also recorded the highest first-day streaming numbers of any BTS release, making the group the most-streamed artist on Apple Music last Friday. The lead track "Swim" has stayed at No. 1 on Spotify's Daily Top Songs Global chart for six consecutive days, from March 20 to 25. In Japan, "Arirang" debuted atop Oricon's weekly combined album

Foreigners account for 25% of BTS comeback concert crowd

Foreigners accounted for a quarter of attendees of K-pop group BTS' comeback concert in downtown Seoul last weekend, city data showed Friday. A total of 19,170 foreigners attended the event at Gwanghwamun Square on Saturday evening, accounting for about 25 percent of 75,927 people in the area at the time, according to the data from the Seoul city government. Among the foreigners, 13,898 were long-term visitors, indicating that most of them were residents in the country, such as students, not tourists, the latest data showed. The city earlier gave real-time estimates of up to 48,000 people in the area, but a city official said the latest figures are more accurate as they are based on base station data. By nationality, 1,740 Thais are presumed to have attended the event, followed by 1,184 Vietnamese, 1,126 Indians and 1,098 Japanese, according to the data, which also analyzes foreigner entry statistics. Police had initially expected the concert to draw up to 260,000 people, prompting strict crowd control and safety measures.

K-pop group TWS has made it to Rolling Stone magazine’s “Future 25” list, earning recognition as one of the acts the publication sees as likely to help shape the future of music. The annual project selects 25 artists or industry figures expected to influence the direction of music, and this year’s lineup included TWS. “The most exciting and energetic young K-pop groups today,” the magazine wrote in introducing the group. “They’ve won praise for their music, their stage presence, and their model-like visuals.” Rolling Stone said the six-member group has embraced a feel-good pop sound built on retro influences, lush harmonies and clever wordplay. It also described “Overdrive,” the title track of TWS’ fourth mini album “playhard,” as a viral hit. In an interview with Rolling Stone, TWS said the boyhood pop genre — the term which the group uses to define its music — is ever widening and broadening. “It could be exciting, it could bring peace and comfort, or it could deliver po
