Chat Help & Rules
How chat works, what is allowed, and what can get you muted, suspended, or banned
These chat rules apply in addition to the Terms of Service. The examples below are not exhaustive. Moderators may remove content or act faster when safety is at risk.
Top chat help
How do I join a chat room?
Open Chat Rooms and select the room you want. If someone shared a direct room link with you, opening that link should take you straight into the room.
How do I whisper or message someone privately?
Tap or click the person’s name or avatar in chat and use the whisper or private message option when it is available. If you do not see the option, private messaging may not be available in that room or for that account context.
How do I send a photo or link in chat?
Use the media or upload action next to the message box to attach a photo. To share a link, paste it into the message box and send it like a normal message.
How do I reply to a specific message?
Use the reply action on the message you want to answer. This keeps your response attached to that message so other people can follow the context.
How do I add friends or accept a friend request?
Open the user’s profile and send a friend request. To manage requests and your current connections, go to Friends.
How do I mute, unmute, block, or report someone?
Open the user menu from chat or their profile and choose the action you want. Mute hides messages for you, block limits interaction, and report sends the issue to moderation review.
How do I make my own room?
If room creation is enabled for your account, use the room creation option from chat and follow the prompts. If you do not see it, the feature may not be available to every account or in every context.
Why can’t I send messages right now?
Common reasons include being logged out, temporary mute, room restrictions, network issues, rate limits, or account moderation. If it keeps happening, contact support from Help & About.
How do I appeal a mute, suspension, or ban?
Use the support form on Help & About. Include your username, what action you saw, roughly when it happened, and any context that matters.
Chat rules
Chat should stay respectful, age-appropriate, and safe. Use chat to connect with people, not to pressure, harass, deceive, or overwhelm them.
Do
  • Be respectful, even when you disagree.
  • Respect room topics, moderator instructions, and other people’s boundaries.
  • Use mute, block, and report instead of escalating fights.
  • Keep your username, profile picture, and messages non-explicit and non-deceptive.
  • Give context when sharing links, images, or media.
  • Keep public chat appropriate for a mixed-age community.
Do not
  • Harass, dogpile, threaten, bully, or repeatedly target someone.
  • Use hate speech, slurs, or identity-based harassment.
  • Post sexual content, solicit sexual content, or sexualize minors.
  • Pressure people for private contact info, photos, or off-platform chats.
  • Spam, flood, mass-tag, derail rooms, or repost removed content.
  • Impersonate staff, evade moderation, scam, phish, or distribute illegal content.
What can get you muted, suspended, or banned?
Immediate permanent-ban behavior
  • Sexual content involving minors, grooming, sexual coercion, or requests for explicit images.
  • Doxxing or sharing someone’s private information without permission.
  • Credible threats, extortion, blackmail, or encouraging real-world harm.
  • Hate speech or targeted slur-based harassment.
  • Scams, phishing, malware, account selling, or other deceptive fraud.
  • Ban evasion or using alternate accounts to dodge moderation.
  • Impersonating moderators, admins, staff, or support to mislead users.
  • Sharing explicit sexual media, extreme graphic content, or non-consensual intimate content.
Usually warning, mute, or suspension first
  • Harassment, repeated insults, or intentionally provoking fights.
  • Repeated unwanted flirting, sexual comments, or boundary-pushing behavior.
  • Spam, flooding, repetitive caps, mass tagging, or room disruption.
  • Unsolicited advertising, self-promo spam, or repeated link dumping.
  • Ignoring moderator instructions or repeatedly derailing room topics.
  • Trying to bypass word filters, room limits, or other safety restrictions.
  • False reports or weaponizing the report system against other users.
Content that may be removed even without a ban
  • Off-topic flood, low-value spam, or repetitive message chains.
  • Public posting of contact info or private details that do not belong in chat.
  • Graphic or explicit jokes that make public chat unsafe for the room.
  • Misleading links, clickbait, or reposted content that was already moderated.
  • Copyrighted content reported by the owner or content that violates another site policy.
Safety and privacy
  • Do not post your phone number, email, school name, home address, or live location in public chat.
  • Do not post someone else’s private info without their clear permission.
  • Use profile social fields for approved profile links instead of dropping contact info into public chat.
  • If someone pressures you for private contact, sexual content, proof photos, or anything that feels off, stop replying and report them.
  • If a situation feels unsafe, leave the room, block the user, and contact support immediately.
Reports, warnings, and appeals
  • Moderators may delete content without prior notice when it breaks rules or creates safety risk.
  • Enforcement can include content removal, warning, room mute, room removal, temporary suspension, or permanent ban.
  • Severity, repetition, context, and prior behavior all matter.
  • Serious safety cases can skip warnings and go straight to suspension or permanent ban.
  • If you think an action was wrong, appeal through Help & About.
Chat FAQ
Can I share my socials or ask people to talk somewhere else?
Use your profile’s social link fields where supported. Repeated public contact farming, pushing people off-platform, or pressuring users for outside contact can be removed or moderated.
Can I advertise another app, server, product, or account?
Not without approval. Unsolicited ads, promos, referral spam, and repeated self-promotion can be removed and may lead to mutes or suspensions.
Why was my message removed?
It likely broke a room rule, a chat safety rule, a spam rule, or was removed by moderation review. Not every removal comes with a separate warning message.
What happens after I report someone?
Reports are reviewed and can lead to content removal, warning, mute, suspension, or ban depending on severity and history. Not every moderation action will be visible to the reporter.
Can I swear or joke around?
Light joking is one thing. Targeted abuse, sexual content, slurs, threats, graphic content, and repeated aggressive behavior are not allowed.
What if someone is making me uncomfortable but it seems subtle?
You do not have to wait for it to get worse. Mute, block, leave the room, and report it. Moderators can still act on repeated boundary-pushing, unwanted contact, or escalating behavior.
